The university hosting us (Universitas Indonesia) is located in the fringes of the city, less than a kilometer outside the Jakarta border line.
It is the oldest university in Indonesia according to Wikipedia. The campus is quite large, much larger than UP Manila. Although the hotel we are staying in looks really near on a map as it is just across the river, we have to go to the other side of the campus to enter.
The university has a train station beside it, a lot like the PNR trains in Manila where people sit on top of the carriages. Its entrance reminds me of Nanyang Tech University's entrance because it is beside a semi-cloverleaf interchange and the welcome sign doesn't have any buildings beside it amidst a sea of greenery.
Most of their buildings (although old) have a certain character that makes me wish UP buildings were not just square blocks. They have this new building that looks really nice, incorporating a green roof and granite walls for the turret-like structures on top.
The wide and winding river traversing the school and the multitude of trees make the university a pleasant place to study in. Now I regret not being able to visit University of Malaya (Malaysia's oldest), considering that my visit to Chulalongkorn University (Thailand's oldest) was also very pleasant.
