One of the things I miss the most in my life in Singapore is organizing events.
In both my main circles of friends (NUS Filipino friends and church friends), I was (or I felt I was) viewed as the go-to guy for conceptualizing and planning events. I don't think it's my attention to detail. It's more of the heart or intent of the events or themes of the events that I've organized that give them that Wayne touch.
I couldn't say that I've never organized an event that I considered a failure but I could confidently say that at least one person from each of the events (aside from me of course) considers the event a success by their own metric.
I got into a fight once because I felt that somebody was taking my event away from me. It's not that I wanted to be the center of the said event but I just despised how that somebody began making himself the center of the event by giving speeches, commanding people to do things and changing the program flow without even informing me.
I love it when people have fond memories of the event. The details of the event usually do not matter. The event is just an excuse to create opportunities for interactions that would otherwise not happen in normal contexts.
